On Monday 6th June 2011, Hungarian police, firefighters and other emergency services marched through the streets of Budapest in protest against austerity measures. The march culminated in a demonstration outside the Hungarian Parliament Building (Hungarian: Országház) ,the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary, in Lajos Kossuth Square, on the bank of the Danube, although torrential rain dampened the spirits of the demonstrators.
This march followed a simliar march in April, when an estimated 10,000 attended a rally in Budapest, when trades unions representing police, the army, firefighters, customs offices and law enforcement gathered in front of the parliament building, demanding that the government keep current pension rules in place. They are also demanding a pay rise to compensate for years of frozen wages, and the preservation of the pension provision for retired officers.
